2019 G raduating C lass

We wish our students the best of the best. We love our students and want them to know that Evergreen is their home and we will always welcome them. Yes we will have a high school someday so all students at Evergreen will be able to stay and graduate with us. This is the request from our parents and our students and this is also our dream. You have helped to support this dream. Many attendees at our Gala have helped us to realize the many accomplishment we have achieved in our school. This graduation is a testament of your support. Evergreen Charter School First Graduating Class of 8th Graders

F or the first time in our history, on June 22, 2019 Evergreen Charter School 8th graders will graduate. This is a very special moment that we celebrate as a great accomplishment. We did not even dream we would have a middle school. Evergreen began as an elementary school in 2009. We projected to serve children from kindergarten through fifth grade. When parents voiced their concerns to the Board of Trustees of having their children attend the middle school in Hempstead where failure and violence have taken place for generations, the Board of Trustees committed to move forward to support the future of our students and to work towards this objective. This was not easy. With the support of parents, students and staff, we were able to do it. First, the approval of the 6th grade was a big step. Then, a year afterwards, the seventh and eighth grade got approved. Two fifth grade classes graduated from Evergreen and had to leave our school against their will as our school had no middle school. These were moment of sadness. Sad is also how we feel now that our 8th graders will leave Evergreen because we do not have a high school. At the same time, we are happy because we have provided our students with a sound education and quality instruction. In addition, we have provided students with instruction in art, music (a chamber orchestra, keyboard and choir), and students learned a second language and receive Spanish instruction since kindergarten every day. We believe that learning languages provides a much better future for anyone in the world and enriches our lives as humans as well. It’s our objective to introduce a third language when we have the high school. We have asked our graduating students to be responsible in this next phase of their life. We want them always to practice the pledge and promise that they say every day in school. We want them to forge connections with each other and to remember those less fortunate.
