A mericans over 60 lose $650M a year to online hacks and scams. These scams should be reported to government agencies like the FBI and FTC, but many don't know that reporting is important. Those who do often cannot complete the reports they start. Chronic under-reporting means that U.S. intelligence and law enforcement lack information about online scams. Making online reporting forms easier for older adults to complete would make the problem more visible and help law enforcement cut down on crime. PAINKILLERS AFTER DENTAL WORK

(HealthDay News) -- Seniors who take depression and anxiety drugs shouldn't be prescribed opioid painkillers by their dentist because it puts them at increased risk for problems, researchers warn. They analyzed 2011-15 dental and medical data for 40,800 patients aged 65 and older across the United States. There were 947 emergency room visits and hospitalizations in the 30 days after a dental visit. One in 10 of those who were prescribed opioids were also using medications that shouldn't be taken with them. These patients were 23% more likely to visit the ER or require hospitalization within a month of the dental visit where they received the opioid prescription, the study found. 50% of U.S. Adults Are Concerned About Medical Bankruptcy

Cryptocurrency Blackmail Scam Alert CRISTINA MIRANDA Consumer Education Specialist, FTC

Gallup and West Health recently released survey results on medical bankruptcy concerns among U.S. adults. Here are some key findings from the report:

The email suddenly appears in your inbox. Someone is writing to say that they have access to your cell phone or your computer. And they're about to make your sensitive videos, pictures, or compromising information public. Pay them money (a ransom), they say, using a cryptocurrency, like Bitcoin, and they won't expose the truth. Have you gotten one of these emails? If so, you're not alone. The email is a part of a cryptocurrency blackmail scam that's been popping up for a while. But last month, the FTC saw another uptick in the number of reports of this scam. We've said it before, but it's always worth repeating. The person behind these emails is a scammer. Don't pay him. He's using threats, intimidation, and high pressure tactics to trick you out of your money. And while the scammer may say that he knows about an alleged affair, a video, or something else that could embarrass you if it was made public, it's all fake. In fact, it's also a criminal extortion attempt. Which is why it's really important that you report this type of scam to the FBI, right away. And once you do, remember to tell the FTC, too, at ftc.gov/complaint .

• Half of U.S. adults are concerned that a household health event could lead to bankruptcy. • This percentage has risen from 45% of adults measured in early 2019. • The percentage of non-White adults who harbor this concern has risen from 52% to 64%. • Medical bankruptcy concerns have increased 12 percentage points among adults aged 18-29. • Among adults aged 30-49, medical bankruptcy concerns increased 9 percentage points. 3. Buy Generic Drugs and Pay Less: Many of today's prescribed medications have a less expensive generic alternative. Often generic medication can sell as much as 80% less than the brand name ones. Many people think that if they get a generic brand, it will not work as

5. Do Not SkipOr Decrease Important Medications: The most important thing you can do not just for your health but for your family is to take your necessary medications exactly as prescribed. While it is tempting when money is tight to skip doses or not fill your prescription at all, it will, in all probability lead to far more

well as the brand name. However, generic prescriptions must meet the same stringent Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requirements as the brand name ones. Generic medications use the same active ingredients as brand name medicines, work the same way, and also have the same benefits and risks that a brand name medicine does.

serious or expensive health care issues like missing work, hospitalization and more prescriptions. Worst of all, it could lead to your death. It is just not worth it.

6. Get A Discount Prescription Card:

A discount prescription card can be your best ally for affordable prescriptions. Discount prescription cards are free and have no additional fees. The company negotiates with store pharmacies and independent pharmacies to provide their customers with a discount. The way it works is that you sign up for the card or download the app. When you get your prescription, you look it up and you will find a list of all the pharmacies in your vicinity and the price. This allows you to choose the pharmacy with the lowest price for your prescription. Many companies provide coupons updates and even when there is a drop in price.

4. Buy a 90-Day Supply of Medication Instead of a 30-Day Supply: Another to save on prescriptions is to buy a 90-day supply instead of 30. If there are certain medications you take regularly, and you are like most people, you get it filled once a month. But, if you have an ongoing medical issue that requires long term medication, get a 90-day prescription as it is usually less in price. It also means less time spent at the doctors, saving more money.

SAVE ON PRESCRIPTIONS S IX H ELPFUL T IPS

C osts of prescriptions are rising sharply every year. Last year alone, Americans spent $360 billion on medication. We pay three times more for our medicine than any other developed countries with no signs of easing up. A study by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid predicts that medications will increase in costs by 6% through 2025. If you do not have health insurance or even if you are a tight budget an increase to your life-saving medications can be devastating to you and your family. Sadly, many Americans have no insurance and worse, are forced to choose not to spend money on their medications so they can afford rent and food. It should not be like that and we want to help. We have listed for you a few money saving ideas on how to save on prescriptions. C

1. Have A Serious Talk to Your Physician About the High Cost of Your Prescription: There is no point to having your doctor fill a prescription out for you if you cannot afford to have it filled and go without it. If you are in this position, swallow your pride and talk to your doctor. They may be able to find you a different and more affordable substitute. Some may even be able to give you some free samples which can tide you over for a short time. Also talk to your physician to see if you are able to take one of a different form of medication instead of the combination of the two you are currently taking.

Always disclose to your doctor every medication you take. This way, they can determine if you are still taking medication that you may not need anymore. 2. Talk to Your Pharmacist: When it comes to your medication, your pharmacist can end up being your best friend. They will know how to save on prescriptions. Pharmacists know so much more than about the prescriptions that your physician prescribed because that's what they do. They will also be able to tell you about cheaper alternatives to your prescription as well as manufacturers coupons that can reduce the price of your medication.

Senior Business Volume 1 Issue 1

Charles Horn Retirement Didn't Suit Him- So He Co-Founded a New Start-up “The Great Gatsby” novelist F. Scott Fitzgerald famously wrote that there are no second acts in American lives. But for Charles Horn, a productive and fulfilling second act is proving you can’t keep a good entrepreneur retired. “I worked, I retired and I went back to work,” said Horn, who took six years off between retiring and un retiring. “I got bored and got back into business,” he explained. Horn is a U.S. Army veteran. He graduated with a B.S. degree in accounting and business law from New York University and worked for many years as an accountant. He had been the Chief Financial Officer of a large private conglomerate when he joined a group of senior executives that bought one of the divisions. “That was the beginning of my looking to not having a regular 9-5 job,” he said. About three and a half years ago Horn co-founded Best Ideas Group Inc. (BIG), with veteran life insurance professional Michael Giller. “About a year ago we started getting quite active,” Horn said. Best Ideas Group seeks to “enter into special relationships and/or joint ventures with different vendors and providers, sometimes within different industries (and to) offer uniquely valuable insurance and non insurance products, programs, concepts and services not generally available in the everyday marketplace,” according to bestideasgroupinc.com. “There are a lot of things that we are doing that are helping people,” Horn said. “We’re doing good by doing right.” Active Lifestyle spoke with him about what it’s like to go back to work at a time of life when others are content to sit back and relax.

CHARLES HORN Co-Founder Best Ideas Group, Inc.

What Charles has to Say...

INTERVIEW AL: Why did you decide to retire in the first place?

THE INTERVIEW

CH: I felt I was getting burnt out. Before I decided to retire and actually did it I was at going 100 miles per hour. If I wasn't in a car driving, I was in a limo being taken to an airport, I traveled hundreds of thousands of miles doing deals all over the country. We won an award from a major estate planning organization as the most influential company in the insurance world. As a result of that our phone never stopped ringing, And I got burnt out good. I literally retired from 100 mph to zero, which is a mistake especially if you are extremely active.

interview continued CH: I took a few years off. Mostly relaxing and traveleing. AL: At what point did you realize that retirement wasn’t your cup of tea?

CH: Several years later (after retriring) I started getting really bored. As an entrepreneur involved in different industries, I needed to be creative. I woke up saying, “I’m unemployed and I’m not so happy about it.” After about two years, I decided to ease myself back inot the business world. AL: What was lacking form your life in that period, which made retirement seem unfulfilling? CH: I did pretty much everything I wanted to do. I didn’t play golf or had hobbies. Business, especially as an entrepreneur, kept me sharp. AL: Why did you decide that returning to work onstad pf, taking up a hobby would be the cure for boredom? CH: I messed the action. AL: How did your wife and other family members react to your decision to keep working into your 80’s? CH: My wife has a hobby. It is knitting. I told her business is my knitting. She got it right away. AL: What are the psychological/emetional benefits? CH: Working kept me young. I feel like I’m 30 again. AL: What advise would you giove to folks who want to “unretire” and purse a later career in life? CH: Just do it. It’s never too late!

“Working kept me young. I feel like I’m 30 again!”

Bocce

Players are permitted to throw the ball in the air using an underarm action. This is generally used to knock either the pallino or another ball away to attain a more favorable position. Tactics can get quite complex when players have sufficient control over the ball to throw or roll it accurately. Those are the rules...give or take. However, like everything else in the Bronx, we play by our own rules. So, here the main rule is to yell and scream, give players on the opposite team grief, chew on a small evil looking and smelly cigar, and drink red wine made by someone's grandfather in the cellar of his building. (Incidentally the wine is usually excellent.)

A great sport, minus the sweating.

The game may not present the aerobic challenges of distance running, nor the strength needed to play tackle football, but it is a great way to spend time with friends screaming and enjoying adult beverages. There is probably something about eye hand coordination that can be said of the game, but what the... if you're enjoying yourself on a sunny afternoon, who really cares. Try a game of bocce. Any inner-city park will get you started. If you live in the country even better, construct your own court... don't worry about the dimensions, just call it a "private club", and you'll be good to go. Reproduced with permission from our friends at Agnituslife.com

A

A s a young boy I remember going to the park off Jerome Avenue on Sunday afternoons in the post war Bronx, to play baseball or basketball or ring-a-levio, with my cronies. Over on the other side of the park were a dozen or so older men smoking small cigars and speaking Italian while one of them rolled a ball down a dirt alley hitting other balls, to the delight and loud screams of his compatriots. We didn't pay it much mind at first, but after a while even the young became curious. Bocce (Bot-Che) is an ancient game, started during the time of the Roman Empire, quickly spreading throughout Europe and in several places around Scandinavia.Bocce is traditionally played on natural soil and asphalt courts. These courts are usually about 76 to 100 feet long and 10 to 13 feet wide. The Bocce balls can be made of metal, wood, or various kinds of plastic.Unlike lawn bowling balls, bocce balls are spherical and have no inbuilt bias. A game can be conducted between two players, or two teams of two, three, or four. A match is started by a randomly chosen side being given the opportunity to throw a smaller ball, the pallino ('bullet' or 'little ball') from one end of the court into a zone 15 feet in length, ending about 8 feet from the far end of the court. If the first team misses twice, the other team is awarded the opportunity to place the pallino anywhere they choose within the prescribed zone.

SPECIAL LIMITED TIME OFFER

The side that first attempted to place the pallino is given the opportunity to bowl first. Once the first bowl has taken place, the other side has the opportunity to bowl. From then on, the side which does not have the ball closest to the pallino has a chance to bowl, up until one side or the other has used their four balls. At that point, the other side bowls its remaining balls. The team with the closest ball to the pallino is the only team that can score points in any frame. The scoring team receives one point for each of their balls that is closer to the pallino than the closest ball of the other team. The length of a game varies by region but is typically from 7 to 13 points.
